Admissions
We welcome boys and girls aged 11 to 19 with dyslexia and associated needs. Students may join the School at any point during the academic year; however, we are unable to admit pupils into Year 10 or Year 12 after the first half-term, or into Year 11, as this would mean joining an examination cohort part-way through their courses.
We offer both day and boarding places, with a flexible approach to boarding to suit individual needs. Boarding places are available from Year 7, subject to the suitability of the cohort.
We also welcome international students, provided that English is their first language or a strong second language.
Please note that places are limited in certain year groups.
Special Educational Needs
All of our students have specific learning difficulties, and their primary needs are dyslexia and/ or dyscalculia, often together with some dyspraxia, speech and language and/or sensory integration disorders. We only admit children we consider will fit into and benefit from our school community. We do not admit children with emotional, behavioural or social disorders.

How does the admissions process work?
Pupils are admitted to the school on the basis of educational need, by the following steps:
Step 1 : Contact Form
Please complete our short enquiry form to register your interest and we will be in touch. Alternatively, contact our office directly via email: office@frewencollege.co.uk or telephone: 01797 252494
If Frewen appears to be the right school for your child, the admissions department will request copies of their latest reports, such as:
- recent educational psychologist's report
- EHCP if issued
- further professional documentation if available
- current school reports
Step 2 : Open Morning
Parents are strongly encouraged to join our Open Mornings, which are held regularly both in person and as a virtual event through Microsoft Teams. To register your interest, please choose one of the available dates for our Open Mornings through our on-line booking form, and we will send you an invitation.
Step 3 : Parent Visit
If our initial assessment confirms that Frewen appears suitable, we would invite parents/guardians, with the child, to visit the school for a more detailed discussion and to see the school first-hand.
Step 4 : Evaluation
Arrangements would then be made for a full evaluation in school.
-
This includes a minimum of three days for day applicants, and a minimum of three days and two nights on-site for boarding applicants, including a residential assessment. Please note that this period may be extended if required.
-
The evaluation will focus on the suitability of any applicant for the specialised educational support on offer, and their ability to become a fully integrated member of our ‘family’.
- Where considered relevant, an appropriate reference may be sought from the current school.
There is a small charge towards our costs for undertaking the Evaluation and Assessment - please see our current fees.
Step 5 : Evaluation Feedback
We will normally be able to let you know within a few days of completion whether we will be offering a place. We will also write a comprehensive evaluation report, and send this to you.
Step 6 : Registration
If your child is successfully offered a place, we will write to you with a formal letter of offer along with a registration form to complete and return. A non-refundable registration fee of £150 will be due.
Step 7 : Acceptance of Place
The final stage of the admissions procedure to secure the place will be to sign the contract and terms of conditions. At this stage, a refundable deposit will be due. Providing that funding is in place, new pupils can start straight away, or at an agreed later date.
