Students embrace the challenge of a 3 day trek for 'D of E' Award

Year 11 students took part in an exciting and challenging 3 day treking expedition through the South Downs, in June, as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Award which is the world's leading youth achievement award.

Our intrepid students embraced the adventure and successfully navigated their way through the challenging route, walking an average of 20 km a day with a steady 4km an hour pace through the South Downs. They trekked with a full back pack containing all that is required to live independently for 3 days (tents, clothes, food and the rest!). Luckily at no point over the 3 days did they lose their way!

The students worked well as a team,  successfully helping each other to pitch their tents each evening and they enjoyed preparing their food 'al fresco' for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Duke of Edinburgh Assessor, who met them at various check points, was extremely pleased with the way they completed the task and they all passed comfortably.

Many young people find achieving a DofE Award life-changing. A fun adventure and major challenge, three progressive Award levels (Bronze, Silver and Gold) and a wide range of activities offer endless possibilities to anyone aged 14 to 24. Millions of young people in the UK have already taken part in the world’s leading youth achievement award – pushing personal boundaries, gaining new skills and enhancing their CVs and university applications.

A huge congratulations to all four of them for this brilliant achievement. We are so proud of them as they were always in great spirit and work collaboratively throughout.
