The Governors of Frewen College are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Mark Loveday as Headmaster following the announcement of Mr Nick Goodman’s retirement.

Mark will join us in September 2024 from Chadsgrove, an outstanding specialist school, where he is currently Deputy Headteacher and Head of Service. Previously Head of Sixth Form and Head of Learning Support at an independent school in Birmingham, Mark has held various leadership positions, teaching across primary, secondary, and sixth form provisions since qualifying as a teacher in 2005. Mark has been responsible for the development of a specialist teaching advisory service and the creation of SpLD diagnostic pathways in Worcestershire, as well as the creation of an alternative provision and support pathway for pupils experiencing emotional based school non-attendance; the latter winning national alternative provision of the year in 2023 under Mark’s leadership. In addition, Mark is a board director for the national SpLD Assessment Standards Committee (SASC), a board director and trustee of a multi academy trust, a school governor, a visiting university lecturer, and a Specialist Leader of Education (SEND) as designated by the DfE. In addition, Mark also completes consultancy work for a leading educational resource company.

Mark was educated at The King’s School, Worcester, and gained a BA (Hons) in Primary Education (specialising in Geography and SEND) with QTS at the University of Worcester. He subsequently completed his postgraduate diploma (Level 7) in teaching and assessing learners with Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) in 2018 and his National Professional Qualification for Headship (NPQH) in January 2020. Mark enjoys being outdoors exploring different parts of the UK, particularly coastal areas, and enjoys walking, cycling and getting out on the water. Mark is a keen reader and supporter of the Arts, particularly music and theatre, and is looking forward to celebrating both at Frewen College.

Commenting on his appointment, Mr Loveday said, ‘I am delighted to have been appointed as Headmaster and am very much looking forward to building on Mr Goodman’s legacy, strengthening the school, and ensuring that Frewen’s long term success, growth and development continues. The affection for the school is clear from everyone I have met, and I feel very privileged to be leading the Frewen family forward over the years ahead.’

Frewen College was asked by the British Dyslexia Association and Patoss (The professional association of teachers of students with specific learning difficulties) to take part in a series of information films showing best dyslexia teaching practice.

Film 1: Using Multi-Sensory methods
This film is about how Frewen staff use 'age appropriate' multi-sensory teaching methods to help students memorise and recall information. Multi-sensory teaching can help reluctant learners by making learning fun and you will see how, at Frewen, we enable students to access learning in a variety of ways.

This film illustrates how Frewen College use dyslexia friendly resources and handouts to help support students in class and it provides tips on how to present the printed page and other visual displays of information.

Ages 7 to 11

Our separate Prep School for pupils from age 7 to 11 is situated in its own grounds, just across the road from the main school buildings, where pupils have lunch and some specialist lessons.

Our Senior School is set in the historic Brickwall estate, in the beautiful countryside of East Sussex. Pupils follow the National Curriculum and, in KS4, choose from a range a range of GCSE and vocational qualifications.
