Frewen picks up Democracy Award

Two of our Senior schools’ students, Woody and Luis, got to visit the House of Commons this week to collect a Democracy Award on behalf of Frewen.

Luis and Woody were pleased to pick up the  award which was for our encouragement of democracy within the school, including being involved in the Big Mark; and electing a Representative for the East Sussex Youth Parliament.

The day started with a tour of the Palace of Westminster, where the group got to see the famous green benches of the House of Commons, the House of Lords and voting lobbies. They were then privileged to see the Queen’s robing room and walk the same path she takes to the House of Lords for the state opening of Parliament.

After lunch the Frewen party went to Committee Room 14 where they were joined by 5 MPs from across Sussex and two East Sussex councillors for a debate on issues raised by the Youth Parliament. Issues included Climate Change; changes to apprenticeships and votes for 16 years olds.
